What is mixing?
Well theoretically mixing is the process of blending all the individual tracks in a recording to create a version of the song that sounds as good as possible. As for me, mixing is a vital aspect of a recording. It is to bring life to your recordings, to create the exact same sound that you have in mind. Also, mixing can enhance the emotional impact of your recorded performance as well as consolidating your vision.
Although, it’s pretty usual for the audience to underestimate the power of mixing and its importance. What will remain a fact with mixing is that, when it is done right, it turns a song into something better. And when done wrong it can turn a great song to an unbearable cacophony sound.
What is mastering?
Mastering is the process of turning a collection of songs into an album where the various songs are clearly polished and form a cohesive whole on an album . But in my opinion mastering is the process of making your music sound the best it can be. It allows you to make final adjustments, where it can improve a particular song’s sonic quality.
As the master engineer, I will look at the album as a whole and unify the sound, maintaining consistency across the album, and preparing it for distribution. My goal is to achieve a consistent sound to make it sound as “hot” as any major label releases.
